Our Story
How did this start? Well, Mother Kim has been wanting to share her food and recipe since... Well, probably since she came to America, 40+ years ago. Now, with a full grown daughter and son, she finds herself with time and the desire to share her food with everyone. Talking to her daughter one day, she runs the idea of doing 도시락 (Do-shi-rak or lunchboxes). She gave that a try, but it was too hard to make a few lunchboxes per day. It wasn't profitable at all and with certain events, a lot of Korean people left Georgia and she lost a lot of her base.
So then she ran the idea of just selling 김치 (kimchi). Then she got ahead of herself, or so her daughter keeps telling her, of selling multiple 반찬 (banchan or side dishes). Her daughter has agreed (reluctantly) to add them to the website as she wants to make them.
To explain the name--our dogs are named Lupin and Louie. Lulu was originally the nickname we gave to Lupin, but after getting Louie, he was named to match with Lupin (Dog Tax Below). So the LuLu pair became part of the family. So when thinking of a name for kimchi, of course naming it after dogs does not seem right. But after jokingly throwing out "Lulu's Kimchi" as a more neutral name, the daughter paused. Lulu made her think of today's semi-popular (Is it already out of the teenage vernacular? It can't be, it's totally lit) "delulu." Delusional. Crazy. Could that apply to the taste of her mother's kimchi?
ABSOLUTELY, she thought.
"Delulu Gourmet Kimchi," she said.
"Done," her mother replied (I'm just kidding, there was a little bit more back and forth, but unnecessary for this page, right?).
So now, with her mother making the kimchi, the daughter provides everything else, including writing up this strange introduction at 11 PM at night. But she does it because she loves her mother's kimchi, really all her food (especially her 냉면 (cold buckwheat water noodles), but that probably will not be sold, sorry y'all).
Anyways, we really hope you enjoy her kimchi, and perhaps other 반찬 (banchan or side dishes) that she is ready to share with everyone! :)
